AFRO BABALÚAYÉ (5 weeks)

In this 5-week course with Osmel you learn the typical dance movements of the orisha Babalúayé.

In the Yoruba religion, Babalúayé is the orisha of disease and epidemics (especially smallpox), of AIDS, neurodermatitis and other infectious illnesses, and of inescapable suffering. He is wrath, and the heat that comes from the depths of the earth, over which a sickening wind blows.

His face is disfigured by pockmarks, which is why he wears dried and plaited palm leaves over it that are adorned by cowries to veil pain and suffering.

His archetype is that of masochistic people who like to display their suffering and are unable to be happy.
