ÜBER CRISTIAN MAURICIO

Cristian Mauricio Vera Núňez is a dancer of Chilean origin who has been living in Barcelona since 2009. He is currently finalizing his two-year temporary residence in Cuba, where he dedicates himself to his studies of folklore, bailes populares and the technique of modern dance of Cuba at the prestigious Instito Superior de Arte ISA and at Teatro Nacional in La Habana. Here he also is a professional dancer of folklore and bailes populares and a primary dancer of the legendary son band Septeto Nacional Ignacio Piňeiro, which celebrated its 90-year anniversary last year.

In 2015 he came second and in 2016 he won the World Championship in Rueda de Casino with his team Tim Manana, of which he is the founder and choreographer. Three times winner of the competition “Buscando el Rumbero” at the prestigious Guaguancó festival (2011-2013), in the following years he was part of the teaching team at the same festival and coach of the most recent winner.

For more than 18 years Cristian has been teaching Cuban dances in Chile and Europe and participating in international festivals in Spain, France, Russia, Norway, Lithuania, Mexicó etc. He is a versatile dancer of Afro-Cuban folklore (Yoruba, Palo, Arará, Abakua) as well as of bailes populares (Casino, Son, Timba, Chachacha). He runs his own school in Barcelona and also teaches at some partner schools as well as as judge in dance competitions.
